Each winter in Montreal, a very special event takes place. Beginning Thursday, Feb 23rd, the Botanical Gardens will be releasing thousands of butterflies in its Main Greenhouse for the annual Butterflies Go Free exhibit. This much-loved event provides a unique opportunity to get up close and observe these vibrant little creatures in the beautiful, natural environment of the greenhouse.

Each day, newly hatched butterflies will be released from as many as 75 different species. The butterflies are free to flutter through the plants and foliage of the greenhouse, and you will see literally thousands of them of all colours, shapes and sizes. Nature interpreters will be on hand to answer questions and provide you with information on butterflies’ unique role in the ecosystem.

Take a break from winter to stroll through the vibrant warmth of the greenhouse, enjoy the butterflies, and remind yourself that spring is on its way.

Where: Botanical Gardens, 4101, rue Sherbrooke Est.
When: Feb. 23 to April 30, 9 AM to 5 PM Tuesday to Sunday, closed on Mondays
