A new café/bar, Le Darling, opened this month at St-Laurent and Marianne, taking up residence where Montreal institution Bar Les Bobards closed its doors last year. The amazingly detailed, ornate yet bohemian décor is a giant step up from the loved, but grungy Bobards.

Not surprisingly, since the owners are veterans in the Montreal bar scene whose repertoire of successful drinks spots include the popular Le Majestique oyster bar just a few steps away at St Laurent and Rachel, and Holder in Old Montreal, as well as others.
Serving up coffee and pastries by day, and turning into a bar at night, Le Darling’s beauty includes a multitude of living plants, vintage musical instruments hung on the walls, cozy leather couches, perfect soft lighting at night, and a strange and beautiful array of tasteful objects and trinkets, all perfectly chosen to contribute to that lovely ambiance.
The coffee is decent and there is lots of room to set up with your laptop during the day for a couple hours of work. The bar menu at night includes a nice selection of cocktails, a variety of microbrew beer and ciders, and a tasty small plates/snack menu.
Great destination anytime of day!
